Hutton APP Privacy Policy

PRIVACY POLICY

1. What Information We Collect

Information You Provide:

  • Account details: email, username, password (encrypted)
  • Content you create: trip names, photos, captions, mineral identifications, comments, questions
  • Profile information: display name, bio, profile picture (optional)

Information Collected Automatically:

  • Location data: GPS coordinates when you create trips or checkpoints (stored locally and on our servers when synced)
  • Device information: device type, operating system, app version
  • Usage data: features used, trips created, photos taken
  • Photos: Images you take within the app, including metadata (location, timestamp)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Provide app functionality (save trips, identify minerals, sync across devices)
  • Improve AI identification accuracy
  • Display your public content in the Community tab (only if you choose to share)
  • Send important updates about the app
  • Prevent fraud and abuse

We DO NOT:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Use your photos for advertising
  • Share your private trips with anyone
  • Track you outside the app

3. Who Can See Your Information

Always Private:

  • Your email address
  • Trips marked as “Private.”
  • Your exact location history

Public (if you choose to share):

  • Trips you mark as “Public.”
  • Your profile name and bio
  • Minerals you showcase in your collection
  • Comments and questions you post

Shared with Service Providers:

  • Replit Object Storage (photo storage)
  • Neon/PostgreSQL (database hosting)
  • Google Gemini AI (only the photos you choose to identify – not stored by Google)
  • Replit (hosting infrastructure)

4. Your Privacy Controls

You can:

  • Make your profile private (opt-out of Community)
  • Choose which trips to share publicly
  • Delete your photos and trips and comments anytime
  • Export your data
  • Delete your account (all data removed within 30 days)

5. Location Data

Hutton app collects location data when you:

  • Start a trip (to track your route)
  • Add checkpoints or waypoints
  • Take photos (for geotagging)
  • On the map with find my location button

You control this: Location tracking only happens when you actively use trip features. You can deny location permissions, but GPS features won’t work.

6. Photo Storage

Photos are stored on Replit Object Storage and associated with your account. Private trip photos are never publicly accessible. Shared trip photos are visible to other users in the Community tab.

7. Data Retention

  • Active accounts: Data kept as long as your account exists
  • Deleted content: Removed from servers within 30 days
  • Deleted accounts: All data is permanently deleted within 30 days
  • Backups: May persist in backups for up to 90 days

8. Children’s Privacy

Hutton app is not intended for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We’ll notify you via email or in-app notification if we make significant changes.
